The subject of oral pathology is taught in 3rd year BDS. This subject serves as a bridge between basic and clinical sciences. A comprehensive curriculum of oral pathology employing the principles of modified Bloom's taxonomy is being developed at Watim Dental college in accordance with the international requirements of the subject.
A comprehensive understanding of the subject, that includes scientific study of causes, clinicalopathological, radiographic and molecular basis of oral and maxillofacial pathologies, their diagnosis and treatment planning is being taught by well-trained faulty. Various teaching strategies are being employed catering to the needs of individual students such as lectures, small group teaching (case based learning) and peer assisted learning.
In addition to that the department stresses the importance of research and evidencebased dentistry in general and oral pathology in particular. Students are encouraged to take up small research projects during 3rd year which is facilitated by senior faculty members. The department comprises of well trained and experienced faculty along with the departmental library and state of the art laboratory facilities.
